What is crack cocaine?
Crack is a powerful and more potent form of cocaine that is usually smoked or injected. Crack is a solid or "rock" form of cocaine.
It results in a near-immediate high that is more intense compared to cocaine in powder form. Regular use can have serious effects on both your physical and mental health, including heart problems, respiratory issues, and an increased risk of dependency.
If you or someone you care about is struggling with crack use, support is available. The Horizons team offers confidential guidance, resources, and non-judgmental support to help you stay safe and make informed choices about your wellbeing.
Do you need urgent support?
If there is an immediate risk to life - such as a suspected drug overdose, life-threatening withdrawal symptoms, or someone has tried to or is about to end their life - call 999 for urgent support.
What support is available?
All our services are confidential, free, and open to everyone in Bristol. Our friendly Horizons team can walk you through the support options available for your opioid use, making it easy for you to choose what’s best for you.

Advice and resources to reduce harm
We understand that you may need, or choose, to continue using opioids while receiving support. Not everyone aims to stop using them, and that’s okay. Our priority is to keep you as safe as possible with our harm reduction support, offering practical advice to minimise risks, such as safe usage practices and overdose prevention.
-
One-to-one Support
If you would prefer a more personalised approach, you can receive support directly with a member of the Horizons team. They'll often have lived experience of what you're going through, offering a confidential and safe space to confide in without any fear of judgement.
-
Workshops
Our workshops are a great starting point for those considering support for their drug use. They offer a welcoming space where our team offers valuable insights and practical advice, helping you make informed decisions with confidence.
-
Clinical intervention
If it is helpful to treat your specific needs, our clinical experts may prescribe you opiate substitute medication, such as methadone or buprenorphine. You, your Horizons worker, and the clinical team will work together to design a medication plan in line with your goals.
-
Rehab or detox
The Horizons team can support you in accessing opiate rehabilitation or detox services, either at home or at a residential facility. During this process, you'll receive support to manage withdrawal symptoms and to make positive changes in your daily life.
Where can I access support?
We understand that everyone is unique and that’s why we believe in offering flexible options, so you can choose what works best for you when it comes to accessing support. No matter your preference, you’ll find it easy to obtain the resources, information and treatment you need.
